Tennis Championships

29th Jul 2013

Finals day on Sunday 14th July brought to a close one of the most successful Tennis Championships in the history of the club.

The tournament enjoyed 8 successive days of sunshine, with suncream and towels being essential courtside accessories. As a result, for the first time in many years all entrants had the opportunity to compete on our grass courts – which are maintained all year round with this week in mind.

The men’s draws again saw record entries: 60 in the singles and 64 in the doubles. The Mixed Doubles qualifying tournament on the Wednesday also remained extremely popular. Amongst the many highlights were Nick Bond’s first singles championship, Jo Wright’s 11th singles win and juniors – Ivan Parslow and Lucy Stead claiming a great victory in the Mixed Doubles A event. The tournament was also the final one organised by Peter Somerville, who was given a great send off!
