Match Report- Chapel A beat Pontefract in final match of the season
03rd Apr 2017
As you know we won the league but we still had one match to play versus Pontefract 1.
After some intros and a welcome to the crowd and the Ponte team, we had some fantastic news from Tom Flannery and Reward that they were going to sponsor us again and also maybe support us back into the PSL!
This is really welcome news and we thank Reward very much for their continued support.
We also gave Dec Christie “Player of the Season” award which was a bottle of Moet so congratulations to him.
I’d like to personally thank every player that played a part this season, it’s been an amazing season and hopefully we can continue on into next season.
CHAPEL A BEAT PONTE 1 4-1
5. Dec Christie beat Sam Todd 3-1.
This was billed as match of the night perhaps but 14 year old Todd wasn’t really at the races in the first two and seemed to be having problems with new shoes that were too big. Dec played well though, controlling his much younger opponent around the court. There was an improvement in the 3rd for Todd as he cut out the errors and started reversing the workload on Dec taking that one. Dec responded well in the 4th but it was still tough but Dec just edged it in 4.
3. Stu McGregor beat Alex Hodgetts 3-1
Both players have improved recently, and both players contrast quite well. Stu plays a patient fitness game and Hodgetts likes to attack. This was how the game panned out but Stu generally made less errors and came out on top.
4. Simon Parke beat Lewis Doughty 3-0.
Myself and Doughty had never played in a proper match but we had trained with each other a lot so perhaps know each others games pretty well. I started off really well going 7-0 up (must be all the commentating and studying the top guys) and managed to win the first two 3 and 3. I put a lot of physical work into those two though and really had to push in the 3rd but eventually pulled through 11-9.
2. Owain Taylor lost to Neil Cordell 0-3.
My pep talk with Owain didn’t really help him too much as Cordell has become much more attacking since i last saw him! Every time he had an opportunity the ball disappeared, much to the disdain of Owain. Wain gave it his best shot though as always, but Cordell was just too sharp tonight and deserved the 3-0 win.
1. Mark Fuller beat Taminder Gata-Aura 3-0.
Mark is one of the best team players i have ever had the pleasure of playing alongside, his commitment is second to none. He is also a very good squash player these days, capable of taking down some much higher ranked opponents. It was not the case tonight though as Mark was fully expected to win which he professionally and clinically did with his metronomic style 3-0.
