Great comeback from Ian Chappell helps secure Chapel A victory

06th Mar 2015

Tonight Chapel A entertained Pontefract 1 and first on court were the No1s and No4s. Ian Chappell at 4 for us faced former Yorkshire Champion Adam Taylor and it was nip and tuck to 8 all until Taylor went up a gear taking it 11-8.

Meanwhile our No1 Joel Hinds won 3-0 against Aussie Courtney West with ease 11-3, 11-3, 11-4.

The Chappell -Taylor match was closer and faster in the 2nd but Ponte’s Taylor was still a bit too clever taking it 11-9. In the third though Taylor seemed to tire as Chappell raced through the third 11-1. The fourth was a little closer but still 11-6 to Chappell. The 5th was also tense with Taylor having two match balls at 10-8 but Chappell had other ideas completing a fantastic comeback and a great win 12-10 in the 5th!

Our No3 Niall McKinnon then faced Ponte’s Lewis Doughty and in a fiercely contested match, but ultimately going down 11-5 in the 5th.

The No2s Dom Hamilton and Alex Hodgetts had previously had some epic battles but this time Dom was in no mood for five setters (think he could smell Rob’s curry) and managed to trounce his younger opponent 11-9, 11-5, 11-6.

And finally our No5 Adam Wellstead found his South African opponent Kyle Murray a little too strong losing 11-8, 11-9, 11-3.

So Chapel A won the match 3-2 and 16 points to 8 keeping us near the top with two matches to go, crucial Queens away game next Wednesday and Hallamshire at home Wednesday 18th March which is our last match of the season.
