Close match but a defeat for Chapel A in the last YPL match

20th Mar 2015

So into the last match we went with high expectations against visiting Hallamshire. I predicted yet another close 3-2 but was obviously hoping it would go our way. First on was Adam Wellstead who has been steadily improving this season, he played against Rahul Bansal who seemed quite dangerous and unorthodox initially, but in the end Adam was too consistent winning in 3.

Next up was Dec Christie against Hallam’s team captain and stalwart Alex Cutts. Dec had his work cut out against the consistent and determined Cutts, but it was all in vain losing out in 4.

Our own Ian Chappell then put up a typically gutsy display and produce another 5-setter with youngster Jack Alcock eventually losing out 11-6 in the 5th.

Dominic Hamilton at No2 played a blinder to take out younger Fuller Chris in 5 really entertaining games containing some cat and mouse type rallies and wonderful shotmaking.

So into a decider between No1 strings and good friends from Nottingham Eddie Charlton and Mark Fuller. Eddie had taken out Fuller in their last encounter 3-2 so we were in for another exciting match. And so it was, toing and froing all the way through, nobody gaining a significant advantage until late in the 4th Eddie fell on the floor and cramped up. He didn’t really seem to recover from that and in the 5th game Fuller looked the stronger taking it 11-7 and the match and tie to Hallamshire 3-2.

The season is now over until the Autumn and it looks like we will finish in 4th place. I will hopefully be back fit again next season and we can continue with the great team spirit that we’ve enjoyed this year and potentially win the title! Thanks to all my team mates for your efforts this year, it’s been really great fun!
