Chapel A crowned YPL Champions!!

23rd Mar 2017

Our victory over Abbeydale 2 last night secured us winning the league a week earlier than expected as we are now on 274 points and the best anyone else can get now is 273. We still have a big match against Ponte next week though followed by plenty of celebrations no doubt! All members and guests welcome to join us. Match starts 7.30

Chapel Allerton beat Abbeydale 2 5-0 (20-0)

2. Simon Parke beat Phil Scully 11-5, 11-8, 11-2.

I was first on, taking the evening off from commentary duties at the British Open in Hull. Phil is a steady player, very quick actually, but I managed to control most of the rallies and work him hard. I had to work hard too to win 3-0 but luckily I had enough energy in the tank.

  1. Cameron Ward beat Andy Mills 11-2, 11-2, 11-3.

Cameron is fit, strong and young and his opponent was not. Hence the scoreline.

  1. Dom Hamilton beat James Biggin 11-6, 11-9, 14-12.

Dom was always going to win this match being the much more talented player. But James is incredibly fit and a real grafter, and is capable of taking on severe pain, and that is what happened. Dom flicked and topspinned and delayed and was having quite a bit of fun out there going 2-0 up. Then in the 3rd James had a purple patch and went 9-0 up unbelievably and it was looking like a potential bagel for Dom. our man fought back well though taking it to the tie-break eventually just sneaking it.

  1. Declan Christie beat Sam Watts 11-3, 11-7, 11-2.

Dec is still unbeaten this season and to be fair, has been very impressive. This match was no exception as he used his superior technique and tactics to overcome Watts quite comfortably. Dec pushed Watts into all four corners consistently and accurately and the pressure was inevitably too much as our man won in three.

  1. Stuart MacGregor beat Adam Turner 11-9, 11-2, 11-6.

These two are quite close in age, Stuart at 18 and Adam just two years older, both have improved considerably but it was the younger man who just seemed to have the edge in a lot of the rallies. Most exchanges were quite well contested but Stu has improved on the volley and at the front and so was able to force the issue. There were some entertaining squash from both players but ultimately Stu won the final point. And essentially the crucial extra point which makes us unassailable at the top and the Yorkshire Premier League Champions 2017!

Well done to every squad player involved this season and also a big thanks to our sponsors Reward.

Simon Parke.
