Chapel A victory over Heaton in YPL

27th Feb 2015

First on court were no5’s Adam Wellstead v Heaton’s Darren King. King made the brighter start taking the first game 11-8 and the second was also looking close with Wellstead managing to pip it 11-8. Meanwhile, Chapel’s Niall McKinnon was leading Matt Fielding 2 games to love and looking supremely confident……

In the third Wellstead was dominant taking it 11-3 but King is nothing if not determined taking the 4th. Wellstead managed to hold on though and win an important rubber in 5.

Niall also managed to pull through and Ian Chappell got a comfortable win so 3-0 and a win to Chapel.

Always nice to get a clean sweep though and Chapel’s Dom Hamilton put in a fantastic effort to push young up and comer Julian Tomlinson to a tough 4 games but eventually ran out the loser.

So the final match was our No1 Joel Hinds versus Heaton’s Adam Murrills.

Joel is still on his comeback from breaking his wrist but was looking in control in the first two games to win 11-6, 12-10. But in the third, Murrills showed his dexterity pulling out some entertaining shots taking it 11-5. Joel got himself back on track in the fourth pummelling Murrills into the back corners eventually coming out the winner 11-9 in the fourth.

So an important 4-1 win for Chapel and pushes us up the YPL table.
