Chapel A Tennis Veterans help Yorkshire to Success
05th Jun 2013
There’s life in the old dogs yet.
Three Club members have helped the Yorkshire Over 70 Men’s Tennis team to get off to a roaring start in the National Senior’s Inter County Competition. Andrew Batcup ( Captain ), Trevor Nuttall and Robin Barlow, together with two players from the Sheffield Hallamshire club have helped the team to a 4 out of 4 match record so far this season, losing only 1 rubber out of 16. Yorkshire had to start in Division 3 of the competition this year, as no team from the county entered the competition last year.
Trevor is a former Chairman of Chapel A and has played for Yorkshire before in tennis and squash, as well as reaching the final of the British Seniors Over 75 grass court individual championship in 2011. Robin is a former Over 70 World Champion at Real Tennis. Andrew is a former Junior Wimbledon and Welsh international player , who also played for the Canadian Over 50’s team in the 1994 World Seniors team championship in Buenos Aires.
Asked for the secret of their success, Andrew put it down to good luck, genetics and the Winter Fuel Allowance !
